
Tour OutlineThis Verdun Battlefields and Beer tour in the Lorraine region of northern France in the Pays de Meuse River region (River Maas) combines the great beers of the region as well as the rich historical culture of the area, namely the events that shaped the outcome of WW1. Verdun has a great nightlife as well as the micro-brewery and bier-cafe L'Estaminet as well of course some interesting history to get your teeth into. The area is phenominal, combine some true Artisanale breweries with WW1 history, add a brewery museum and a castle then you have the recipe for a good tour and of course a good time!

Outline Tour ItineraryThis tour starts and ends in Verdun or Meuse TGV station in northern France. Day 1 We will meet you at either Meuse TGV Station or Verdun, depending on your arrival times. We can then check into our central hotel and have a stroll around Verdun and have a look at its Citadelle and cathedral. Later on we meet for a traditional Lorraine meal as well as some beer or wine after which we can go to L’Estaminet micro-brewery and pub and taste the local beers! The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy this gorgeous town on the River Meuse (Maas). Sleep well! Overnight– Hotel Le Coq Hardi*** or Hotel Le St Paul**, Verdun (France) Day 2 Today is an action packed day when we travel into the region of the upper Meuse (Maas) river known as Pays de Meuse. The day takes us to a beer museum, a chateau brewery, through the WW1 battle grounds and to a farm brewery and finally back to Verdun, a truly remarkable day. First stop is the Chateau Charmois, a gorgeous Chateau with a micro-brewery in the old converted cow shed! Incredible place and Alain is a truly Artisanale farmer-brewer, awesome beer! We then head up the road to the European Beer Museum in Stenay, an interesting museum dedicated to beer, we also have our lunch here washed down with a few of the local beers! A drive across the scenic landscape of Lorraine take us through the area well known from WW1 and the Battle of Verdun. We stop at the destroyed village of Vauquois after which we head onto the Rarecourt farm brewery situated on the edge of this gorgeous village. This an amazing farm brewery and Jacques is another farmer-brewer who uses ingredients straight from his fields by the farm! After getting back to Verdun we can meet later in the evening for a beer. The rest of the evening is yours to have some food and stroll around the town. Overnight– Hotel Le Coq Hardi*** or Hotel Le St Paul**, Verdun (France) Day 3 After breakfast, we head into the area known as Zone Rouge (red area)-the area that saw the worst fighting during the Battle of Verdun. We will have a drive around the area taking in Bezonvaux village, Memorial de Verdun, the Ossuary, Tranches de Bainettes and Fort de Douaumont. We can have a coffee and maybe a bite to eat at the L'Abrin des Pelerins cafe. We then drive onto Verdun and the tour ends at either Verdun train station or Meuse TGV. Bye bye!
