Tour OutlineThis incredible Flanders Beer Tour has been designed to show you the complete spectrum of beer culture that this small but diverse region of Vlaanderen and Flandres has to offer. It is a truly bier-sans-frontiers tour taking in both sides of the border which in historical times was combined as one region, however it now makes up Belgium and French Flanders, an area rich in culture and history. This really is the Vlaams experience, the real Flanders! We not only include visits to breweries but also visit the local Estaminets (bier-cafés) along the way learning about the culture, background and the history of the beer as well as the geography of this incredible part of the world. Over the course of the weekend we will have the chance to drink most beers that Belgium has to offer as well as sampling many of the beers of Northern France. The tour is typically 2-3 days in duration. |

Outline Tour Itinerary
We meet in Bruges or we can pick you up in either Calais or Dunkerque. Day 1 Bruges & Belgium Beer Night Afer we meet you, we go straight to Bruges and check into our hotel. We have a Belgium Beer Night or we meet up later for a beer dinner at Den Dyver, probably Belgium‘s premier restaurant for beer cuisine, last year 2007 it was voted Belgium‘s best and will maybe even get the award again in 2008, good luck! After our beer dinner (around 2.5 hours) we maybe have some time to check out some of Bruges bier cafes such as the excellent Brugs Beertje. Or maybe you just want to take some photos of this incredible old town at night. Sleep well! Dream well! Overnight– Hotel Ibis and Den Witten Leeuw, Bruges Day 2 West Flanders and French Estaminets After breakfast we have a tour of the Halve Maan brewery after which we leave Bruges for a great day travelling across West Vlaanderen (West Flanders), an area steeped in history as well as some of the most diverse selection of beers in Belgium. After visiting Hill 62 and the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres, maybe you just want to look around the old town instead, we then go onto Westvleteren Trappiste Abbey where we can experience the beers, renowned for the label ’Best Beer in the World’, judge it for yourself! Great cheese as well. We have lunch at the Rohardushof, a typical Flanders cafe serving traditional Vlaams food (don’t judge it by the website!). Great food, great beer and the real Flanders. We then go over the border via Watou and into the Pas-de-Calais (French Flandres) region in France, famous for its Bière de Garde. We then drive the short distance onto Mont Cassel where we check into our hotel and have some free time to see this gorgeous town - have a look at the windmill atop Mont Cassel for the excellent views across Flandre, on a clear day you can see the English Channel, maybe have a beer on the way down at the Kasteelhof Estaminet –sipping a French beer at the Kasteelhof with the awesome views really is a must-do! Paradise. If you have seen the film Chocolate then Cassel town may have a familiar feeling to it! Later on we meet up at the Trois Moulin and cross the road for some beer and excellent food at Denys‘ Estaminet Kerelshof for some typical Vlaams food and to listen to some traditional music. Overnight– Hotel Le Foch, Mont Cassel Day 3 French Flandres We drive out of Cassel after breakfast and into Esquelbecqe and Thiriez Brasserie / Brewery where we meet Daniel and maybe have a look around the brewery and have some wonderful beer in his traditional Flemish cafe. Daniel may even have some unfiltered cider from his brother-in-laws orchards in Normandy, lovely! We then go onto Blauwershof, an incredible Estaminet in the village of Godevaersvelde on the border with Belgium, for some lunch as to expereince some real Vlaams culture, they also do some excellent Flemish Stew, naturally with frites, what else! The tour unfortunately comes to end in either Dunkerque or Calais when we drop you off. Hope you had a great time! Bye bye! Optional Extras Battles and Beer See more of the WW1 battle sites and memorials. Please speak to us.
