Tour OutlineThis Düsseldorf & Lower Rhine Beer Tour covers the Niederrhein or Lower Rhine Beer Zone, an area which has managed to retain its original top-fermented beer styles, hence the word Altbier or ‘old beer‘ of the Düsseldorf area. Centred on the Düsseldorf-Venlo-Nijmegen ‘axis of beer‘ we take you to some great places and drink some great beers, from the Altbiers of Düsseldorf , the Landbiers and Lagerbiers of Niederrhein to the Kölschs of Cologne, there are even some great Weizens to be had! Tours can be ‘North’ tours based in either Venlo in Netherlands or Goch in Germany or ‘South’ tours based in Krefeld or Düsseldorf. The tour is typically between 1-3 days in duration and can be combined with Christmas markets, business trips or even shopping trips! We also encourage sports clubs to come over and use the excellent facilities in our hotel in Goch. |

Outline Tour ItineraryFor this ‘North‘ tours we cover the northern part of the Lower Rhine region. Day 1 The weekend kicks off at around 3pm with a tour of Hertog Jan brewery in Arcen in the Netherlands, a great location and right by the River Maas. Having found out how beer is made, we then go opposite the brewery to the aptly named Hertog Jan ‘Prouverij‘, or ‘provery‘. We then find out how beer is drunk (??!!) when we have the opportunity to have not only some excellent Dutch beer but also the chance to have some of Belgium‘s beer! Suitably refreshed we then drive the 30 minutes to our hotel for the weekend where we check in. Tonight we have a German Beer Night when we discover there is more to German beer than fizzy yellow liquid, as well as having some excellent traditional German food buffet! Sleep well! Overnight– Hotel Puur, Venlo/Netherlands or Hotel de Poort, Goch/Germany Day 2 Today is our big day when we will travel through the lush green area of the Lower Rhine, a flat region inundated with small farms, market towns and of course breweries! First stop is Kalkarer Mühle -a mill, bakery and brewery in the gorgeous village of Kalkar where we can have a look around the mill, maybe have some fresh bread washed down with some of the micro-brewery‘s fine beers. We then head to the town of Xanten on the River Rhine, well known for its historic Altstadt (old town) and cathedral as well as the Roman Archeological Park. We can also have some lunch here. An optional stop at the micro-brewery Zunft-Bräu is next on the agenda when we meet the brewer and taste his excellent Lagerbiers, maybe play some skittles as well. Next we move on to the largest Altbier brewery in the world in the town of Issum, only 10 minutes from Zunft. We have a tour of Diebels brewery followed by ‘the tapping of the barrels‘ when everyone has the chance to tap an Alt barrel! Naturally we have a beer or 5 followed by some excellent food in the restaurant. After Issum, we travel back to our hotel and have the rest of the evening to have a look around Goch and see what the town has the offer! See you in the morning. Overnight– Hotel Puur, Venlo/Netherlands or Hotel de Poort, Goch/Germany Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast, we have around a one hour drive across the border to Nijmegen in the Netherlands where we have a guided walk around the old town. After the walk, we have the option of visiting the De Hemel Brouwerij/Brewery for some beer and some lunch or maybe you just want to have a stroll round the town on your own instead, choice is yours! After Nijmegen we either go back to our hotel or we finish the tour in our drop-off point. See you all again next time and hope you had a great time in the Lower Rhine region!
