Tour Outline

This incredible NEW Bavaria & Tyrol Alps 10-day tour shows you not only Munich but also the rest of Bavaria and the Austrian Alps.

The tour starts in Munich or Frankfurt airport and then takes in König Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein, a trip up Zugspitz mountain, the Austrian Tyrol, Salzburg & the Eagles Nest, the Bavarian Forest and then onto Regensburg and the Danube where we spend the night at a brewery guesthouse in the Altmühltal region.

Finally we end up in Munich for the weekend and during the September 2011 tour we also visit Munich’s Oktoberfest. The tour is usually 10-days long with the September tour being 1 day longer. We only have only 6 people maximum so book early!

Our other tour to Bavaria is the upbeat 4-day Oktoberfest 2011 & Alps Special tours which starts and ends in Munich. We have a total of 5 Oktoberfest tours each year which not only introduce you to the world renowned annual Oktoberfest in Munich but also shows you something of the rest of Bavaria and Munich .

Experience the Alps, the beer gardens, beer halls as well as some great architecture, oh and of course some great beer!

Oktoberfest & Alps Special                        
Day 1-Neuschwanstein & the Alps

Tours start at Hotel Concorde in the centre of Munich (or designated start point-please ask), we will then drive straight to Neuschwanstein Castle where we can have a look around, take some photos and have some lunch maybe at the Bräustuberl. Suitably refreshed we then drive into Austria and around Zugspitz or the Plansee on the 'back road' back into Germany, a beautifully scenic drive with mountains either side of the road! We check in to our hotel in Mittenwald and after some free time to wander around the village, we then all meet up for a traditional Bavarian dinner at Zum Stern guesthouse, washed down with a few Mittenwald beers!

Day 2-Munich Walkabout & Hofbräuhaus

Today we hit the road relatively early (don't worry, you can have a nap in the van on the way) for the 1 hour drive to Munich where we will check in and get out and about in Munich. Time permitting, we will have a guided walkabout, we will show you some of the places you may miss if you were on your own, we also build up a thirst for our lunchtime beer! We will then have an early lunch at around midday in the Hofbräuhaus in the centre of Munich. After lunch you can either stay with us or go and have a look around Munich on your own or even the Oktoberfest grounds, choice is yours. See you tomorrow!

Day 3-Oktoberfest, The Big Day!

Hopefully you haven't been out too late the night before as today is the big one! We will all go down to the Wies'n together and get to our reserved beer tent at Hacker Festzelt (TBC) for around midday. We have reservations at our tables for around 4-5 hours, after that you're free to wander around the tents, have a power nap outside on the grass bank or have a look around Munich again. Maybe you just want to call it a day!

You should go to bed with those songs reverberating around your head...'Country Roads.....'

Day 4-Oktoberfest Bye bye!

Unfortunately for you, this is your last day in Munich unless you have decided to stay longer! The tour ends at breakfast over coffee and tales of yesterdays exploits!

Bavaria & Tyrol Alps Special NEW

Day 1—Pick-up & Munich

After we meet you at either Frankfurt or Munich airport, we then go onto Munich.

We check in to our centrally located hotel then you have some free time to either look around Munich on your own or to rest, maybe you have had a long flight. Later on we meet up at around 7pm for some beer and a welcoming dinner.

Day 2—Andechs, Neuschwanstein & Tyrolean Night

After breakfast, we drive to Andechs monastery for a look around, maybe you want an early beer or just a cup of coffee and a Bretzel.

We then head on to Neuschwanstein Castle where we can have a look around, take some photos and have some lunch.

Suitably refreshed we then drive into Austria and through the Alps to the village of Rinnen high up in the Tyrol Alps.

After we check in to the Thaneller Hotel, you have some free time to enjoy the swimming pool, sauna and other wellness facilities before we meet up later for dinner and some fun! The hotel also has a brewery pub called Stadl-Bräu!

Tonight is band night when a Tyrol band should be playing traditional music in the Stuberl’n!

Should be a good night and time for everyone to get to know each other and relax after a busy day! Sleep well!

Day 3—Zugspitz Mountain & Mittenwald

After breakfast, we then drive through the Austrian Alps and around the back of the Zugspitz mountain, Germany’s highest, the views should be stunning if the weather is good! We catch the cogwheel train up to the top of the Zugspitz mountain at 2962m.

After a look around and maybe some photos we can have some lunch at Germany’s highest point! This really is an amazing trip!

We then drive through Garmisch and onto Mittenwald and our hotel for the night located in the centre of the beautiful village.

We then all meet up later for some traditional Bavarian food in the gorgeous beer garden at Gasthof  Stern, the food here really is excellent, washed down with some fresh, cool Mittenwald beer, brewed in the village-paradise! Maybe see the sun go down over the Karwendal mountain....

Day 4—Innsbruck

After a leisurely breakfast we travel over the mountains and back into Austria.

We are looking at an early check-in and a free day for your to look around Innsbruck at your leisure.

We meet up later for some dinner together washed down with a few beers.

Day 5—Tyrol & Salzburg

Today we drive across Austria stopping in St Johann at the Huberbräu brewery for lunch, beer and maybe a look around the brewery. The scenery today is absolutely stunning and we can stop along the way for some photo opportunities!

We then drive back over the border and onto Salzburg (a UNECSO World Heritage Site) where we check in and get ourselves out and about in this gorgeous town where we will be staying for the next 2 nights.

After some free time, we meet up later for some food and some beers at the Augustiner beer garden, gorgeous setting and great food and beer!

Day 6—Eagles Nest & Salzburg

After breakfast we drive back to Germany and Obersalzburg and after we park up we catch the tourist bus up the road especially build to build Hitler’s retreat – the eagles Nest, or in German, Kehlstein. The view from the top is stunning (if the clouds aren’t around) and it’s worth also to soak up the atmosphere of this place in history.

We then go onto Berchtesgaden for maybe some lunch after which we go back to Salzburg. The rest of the afternoon is free to look around Salzburg as you wish.

Again we meet up later for dinner and some beers!

Day 7—Schnapps Museum & Brewery Guesthouse

After breakfast we then drive through the hills of the Bayerischer Wald or Bavarian Forest region of Bavaria and to the village of Zwiesel and our lunch stop.

Afterwards we visit the Zwiesel Dampfbier (steam beer) brewery. This brewery is situated in the heart of the Bayerischer Wald on the borderlands with the Czech Republic and is unique in that it produces a beer it calls steam beer.

We then drive along the border with Czech and to our hotel for the night, the Brauerei-Gasthof Eck in the small village of Böbrach. We should arrive in Eck at around 4pm and after check-in and after maybe a quick welcoming beer we can then have a look at the Böbrach Schapps Museum which is attached to the back of the brewery guest house. Cheers!

We then have the evening to have some excellent Bavarian food, some beer brewed on the premises and maybe even a sauna. Sleep well!

Day 8—Regensburg, Weizen Beer & Brewery Guesthouse

After breakfast we then head to Regensburg, a UNESCO accredited town on the River Danube. We have the chance for some sightseeing as well as then walking over the Steinbrücke. After some great food and beer at Spital Brewery -if it is good weather then the beer garden is a great spot, we should have time for a quick beer in Kneitinger Brewery Pub. We then drive the 15 minutes to Kelheim where we should also have the chance for a tour of the Schneider Weisse brewery.

After Kelheim, if we have time we may go onto Weltenburg Monastery where we can have a look around the church.

After a busy day, we check into our brewery guesthouse for the night in Essing in the Altmühltal region. We then have the evening to have some excellent Bavarian food, some beer brewed on the premises by Josef Schneider himself and maybe a walk around this quaint village. Sleep well!

Day 9—Munich Walkabout & Hofbräuhaus

Today we will have a guided ‘walkabout’, we'll show you some of the places you may miss if you were on your own, we also build a thirst for our lunchtime beer! Or maybe you want to wander on your own. We will then have an early lunch at around midday in the Hofbräuhaus in the centre of Munich, a must-do visit when in Munich, the atmosphere is electric!

After lunch you can either stay with us or go and have a look around Munich on your own or even the Oktoberfest grounds, choice is yours.

Today is also the Oktoberfest opening ceremony, listen for the artillery shots at midday.

Day 10—Oktoberfest, The Big Day!
